O Emmys 2021 foi a noite dos streamings. Na premiação que aconteceu no último domingo, 19, séries disponíveis nos serviços da HBO e Netflix saíram vitoriosas. Nesse sentido, The Crown foi a maior da noite nas categorias de Drama, e Hacks dividiu os prêmios de comédia com Ted Lasso, da Apple TV+.
Nas minisséries, a HBO também venceu com Mare of Easttown e I May Destroy You. No caso desta última, a criadora Michaela Coel (que foi atriz, roteirista e diretora da série), venceu na categoria "Melhor Roteiro em Minissérie", e fez um discurso poderoso no palco. Além do mais, Michaela dedicou seu prêmio e trabalho às vítimas e sobreviventes de abuso sexual.
